Many people earn their living by selling gently used clothing on eBay. Learn how to make money selling clothing you can find at thrift stores, garage sales, consignment stores, and in your own home!

Step 1

Visit your local thrift stores, consignment stores, church rummage sales, and garage sales often. Learn the sale days, the layout of the store, and take your time when shopping.
Step 2

Look for designer labels, high quality fabrics, and items new with tags. Examine the item closely before buying. Most thrift stores and consignment stores do not allow returns.
Step 3

Research what sells best on eBay. Check eBay completed listings to determine what items have sold and have not sold. Pay close attention to starting price, shipping fees, and key words.
Step 4

Even the best items found in thrift stores will not be in stellar condition. Take time to launder, iron, or press them. Sew on missing buttons. Repair loose hems or holes in sweaters. Use home dry cleaning products or fabric sprays to remove "thrift store smell." Remove pilling from sweaters. Use a sticky lint roller to remove lint from items. Make the item look as nice as possible before taking photos. Just like contractors "fix up" a home before reselling it, you must "fix up" clothing.
Step 5

Describe any flaws on the item and show photos if possible. Many buyers do not care if the item is perfect. Be honest about what you are selling to avoid any problems later.
Step 6

Use appropriate key words in your title. Be sure to include brand or manufacturer, size, color, and fabric content. Example, "Ralph Lauren Mens button down shirt RED XL." You may also want to add the acronym, "EUC" which means "excellent used condition."
Step 7

Join groups and forums and talk with other sellers. The best way to learn is to practice and to chat with other sellers who have experience. eBay is like anything else in life, there is a learning curve.
