Things You'll Need:
- AFN decoder
- Satellite dish
-
Step 1
To get AFN, you need three things: a decoder, a satellite dish and proper permissions. There are several ways to get a decoder. Some bases issue them to their members. Check with local members or base supply to find out if your base is one of them. Or, check the local "For Sale" boards. People leaving the base might be selling their decoders. Or you can buy a decoder from AAFES.

Step 2
Set up your satellite. You may need to have someone install it for you. To get the settings for installation, check the AFN website found in the Resources section for specific angles and degrees. It is best to have a satellite signal finder. Generally, if you hire someone to do this for you, you won't have a problem and it is relatively cheap.

Step 3
Once your satellite is set up properly and your decoder is hooked up, you might notice that you only have two out of the ten channels. This is because you have to register your decoder. Please refer to the Resources section for the registration website. Fill out the information requested and after your permission is approved, your AFN should be up and running within 24 hours. Please refer to the Resources section for the channel guide website.
