For a long time, country music was seen as something provincial, unsophisticated and uncool. Now, however, country music is becoming more and more mainstream. This might be bad for hardcore country fanatics, but it could be a good thing for you. Nowadays, country music is more accessible than ever.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Listen to it. This might seem obvious, but it must be said. The first step to enjoying country music is to listen to it. So, find a country radio station and listen as you drive into work. Put the country music channel on your TV as you get ready in the morning. Finally, go out and find some live country music.

  2. Step 2

Relate to it. One of the reasons that country music is popular is because people feel they relate to the songs. As Trace Adkins says, “They’re songs about me.” If you don’t relate to it, you’ll probably never enjoy country music. This is not a genre you listen to for its technical brilliance, nor is most of it conventional dance music. The best reason to listen to country music is because it may speak to you.

  3. Step 3

Find the style you like. Country encompasses a huge, diverse field of music. Find the niche you like, whether it be slow romantic ballads, cry in your beer sad songs, or happy songs that celebrate a hard-drinking, hard-living ethos.

  4. Step 4

Discover which artists you like. Country music isn’t only about the music, it’s also about personalities. Who do you relate to? Who sings the type of music that you enjoy? Pick your favorites and follow them. Like following a professional athlete, following a musician can be a lot of fun. Listen to their songs, buy their CDs and even go see them live. Make their music a part of you.

  5. Step 5

If you listen to and love country music, be proud of it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Listen to modern country music first. Old fashioned country music is very different, and many new country music fans don’t enjoy or relate to it.
