Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Wash your hands. One of the best things you can do to stay healthy during the winter months when living in a dorm is to frequently wash your hands. Germs live on all types of surfaces, but you can eliminate them by taking the time to wash your hands with hot water for at least 30 seconds several times each day.
Step2
Get plenty of sleep. Many college students shortchange themselves on the amount of sleep they get every night, since there are some many things for them to do in a day. However, students should take the time to get enough sleep, as a lack of sleep makes them more susceptible to colds and flu.
Step3
Don’t share food or drinks. When college students get together they often choose to share food and drinks. However, this can lead them to get sick. Taking a sip of a drink at a party can be dangerous if other people have already drank from the same cup, can or bottle.
Step4
Finally it is important that college students get a flu shot and other vaccinations in advance in order to prevent them from being sick. Most college health offices provide these to students for a reduced charge or can file them with insurance, thus it is very easy and quick to obtain. They can even dart in to the office in between classes and receive the shot without it being a big hassle.
