If you're visiting Oahu, a trip to the North Shore is a definite must. Here are a few tips to enjoy the North Shore like a local.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pack a picnic for the beach. Bring some spam musubi, a couple of cans of chilled guava juice and some dried mango. Don't eat too much, though--you'll want to enjoy the best of North Shore's cuisine for lunch.

  2. Step 2

Sunbathe at Waimea Bay. Watch the kids jump off of the big rock, see some great surfing, and frolic in the waves.

  3. Step 3

Head to Haleiwa for lunch at one of the great established restaurants like Pizza Bob's, Kua Aina Burgers or Haleiwa Joe's.

  4. Step 4

Head over to have a shave ice after lunch (or snow cone, to you mainlanders!) at either Aoki's or Matsumoto's. Both have great shave ice, but Matsumoto's is famous and the walls are covered with pictures of celebrities who have visited this North Shore institution.
