Things You'll Need:
- Your eyes
- Possibly a wrench
-
Step 1
You have a home radiator huh? Well ok, and your noticing some leaking from it. This is going to help you to inspect that leak, and maintain and hopefully fix that leak.
-
Step 2
First off, it is important to have your radiator inspected and maintained on a regular basis. According to DIY's web page, they say on average you should have a professional come out about once a year, however you can check things yourself to alert you to any problems in between visits.
-
Step 3
Check slopes, making sure all radiators have a gentle slope towards the steam inlet pipe.
-
Step 4
Check for vent blocks, you are looking for paint, rust, and any corrosion that could block these and not allow air to escape from the radiator.
-
Step 5
Check inlet valves making sure that your valves are either all the way open, or all the way closed, because having them partially opened or closed will not help regulate heat, but instead make lots of noise.
-
Step 6
And finally watch out for leaky valves. More than likely it is something simple with the leak. More procedure often than not it is just a simple procedure of tightening the nuts and bolts anywhere and everywhere you can. Usually this will stop most leaks, and you wont have to call a professional in for an emergency visit.
