Things You'll Need:
- Free online course
- Internet access
- Email account
- Word processor to do assignments
-
Step 1
Know that free online courses are offered on almost every topic imaginable. Some are simple, courses with no stress. Others are actual college courses that a have been made available to the public for free. You can find free online courses that are informative, extensive and offer the same quality as an expensive, college course.
-
Step 2
Do a web search for “free online courses” and start clicking through on the topics of your choice. To narrow the search, use keywords. For example if you’re interested in a free online course in photography search for “free online course+photography.”
-
Step 3
Carefully read all of the information prior to registering to be sure that the course is actually free. Some courses might require the purchase of books or additional information. Others could ask for extensive personal information in order to sign up for the course and the objective of some free online courses is to get you to make a purchase of a particular product or service. Find out how you can get out of the course if you decide it’s not for you. It should be relatively easy to unsubscribe to a free course.
-
Step 4
Understand the level of the course that you are registering for, how the course will be delivered and the content that will be covered. Courses might send lessons directly to your email account. If so, these should come from an autoresponder with a double opt-in system which means you have to verify your registration by clicking on a confirmation link in your email before the course will start. This lets you opt-out in case you change your mind. Other courses could require signing into an online classroom, chat room or dedicated other dedicated course classroom.
