Tromping through Ancient Greece, Egypt, and Babylon is always fun. But it's even more fun if you know a few basic guidelines for making your character. Rather than discuss each of the 72 possible combinations, here's a quick guide to the Defense Mastery and how to build your Defender.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Titan Quest computer game

Step1
Invest Stat Points. Chances are, you'll want a bucket of strength to pick up those heavy shields, so dump everything into strength for the first 5 levels or so. After that, consider sharing evenly between strength and dexterity for a while, and then returning to pure strength once your hit rate is high enough.
Step2
Max out Armor Handling and then Defense Mastery, but on the way up, put 1 point into every passive skill on the left and right. These skills have diminishing returns, but 1 point in each gives you many bonuses with no effort, as you build to level 32 mastery.
Step3
Once Defense is Mastered, place a point in Colossus Form for boss battles. Drop a few more points in the passive skills you got on the way up, and drop a few points in the Rally tree to recover health. Look to your second mastery for offensive skills before returning to max out the passives here, unless you want to use shield attack skills as your primary offense.
Step4
Suggested Secondary Masteries: Dream Mastery, with Trance of Convalescence to make you a complete tank. Warfare Mastery, for the Onslaught tree that adds the offense to your strong defense. Hunting Mastery, to add a little speed to your slow defender.
Step5
Equipment: The Defender is a tank, so armor him up like one. High defense means your enemies will attack you fruitlessly, although any increased speed equipment will help make up for your own weaknesses. A good shield is essential if you attack with it, and shields that spawn with a bonus to all Defense Mastery skills are not hard to find and worth using.

Tips & Warnings

  • Maximize Armor Handling at the beginning of the game, and once you have enough strength that you don't need it, redistribute those points.
  • Colossus Form only lasts a short while, so save it for when you need it.
