Most people remember the first time they visited a friend’s or neighbor’s house and saw a beautiful vase on the dining or living room table. The vase may have been white, red, green, or blue or even clear. Either way, the vase caught their eye and became the topic of discussion, at least until they found out how much it cost. Now if you are like me, you love beautiful things, but beautiful can be very expensive. If you can afford beautiful things, then this demonstration is not for you. But, for the rest of us who can not afford a Ming vase or even a Victorian one, the following homemade tip will definitely delight the beautiful enthusiasts at heart.
To make a homemade vase, you will need the following: a bottle with either a narrow neck or wide neck (clear or colored), Elmer’s glue, yarn, and scissors.
The bottle that you choose could be an old beer or wine bottle.
The scissors are used to cut the yarn and are easy to acquire. With all of these items, making your homemade vase should not take more than two hours.
Step1
In making your homemade vase, clean the bottle that you plan to use thoroughly.
Step2
Use a mild form of fragrance, to pour or spray into the bottle after you clean it. If you still have the lid or top put it on to trap the fragrance in the bottle.
Step3
After you cleaned the bottle inside and out and have dried it so that no moisture exists in it or on it, proceed to decorating the bottle.
Step4
Use the glue and yarn to cover the entire bottle or part of it. You decide how far your design goes.
Step5
Follow these instructions and take your time. If the project takes more than two hours, do not worry. The joy of the finished product is all that matters. If all goes well, your homemade vase will dazzle your friends, family members, and associates, even if it does resemble a Ming or Victoria. It certainly will be the topic of discussion and put you at the center of attention.
Tips & Warnings
Since glass breaks, use a plastic bottle instead or use shatterproof glass if possible. Also, use a wider neck bottle if you plan on putting more than just flowers in your vase. For the yarn, use a color that springs to a season or special occasion. For instance, red and green is good for Christmas, but not for the glamour of Spring. Therefore, use good judgment, but have a little fun with your choice of colored yarn. Elmer’s glue is ideal because most children’s projects were made with it and it is quite effective.
Remember, other people will be viewing your vase after it is done. Dirty vases give off very bad impressions. When you clean your bottle, do not forget the inside.
Clear bottles can be covered with darker colored yarn, while colored bottles can be colored with lighter colored yarn. For example, if you wanted to place a special design on your bottle, like a hat, a tree, or a cross, use the glue to fasten the yarn to the bottle to form the decoration that you want. Remember this is your creation.

Make sure, however, that when you use the glue that it sticks to the bottle as you insert the yarn.
Do not let the glue drip because it will create a sticky mess.
