Tired of paying high phone bills? Yahoo offers a service called "Phone In" for $2.99 a month. This service allows you to choose any phone number of your choice and you get UNLIMITED incoming calls. But you must have a Yahoo account and be signed on to Yahoo Messenger from any computer to receive your phone calls. This is great for people who spend a large amout of time on the computer. And, even if your computer is off, when you sign on to Yahoo Messenger, you will see who called you and when. It's great for home and work, plus for when you're traveling. You can sign on to a computer anywhere in the world and still be able to receive your calls. It's cool and inexpensive.

  • Headset with mic

Step1
This page will tell what you need to know to get started Log on to http://voice.yahoo.com/phone_number.php
Step2
Choose a telephone number Follow the directions on the screen. Click "Get a Number."
Next, choose which region you want your phone number in. Remember, you must have the latest version of Yahoo Messenger to have this service work.
Step3
If you have friends in China or California, you have a choice of signing up for a phone number with their area code. So, each time they call you, it will be a local call for them. Once again, you can sign up for any number in the United States and abroad for $2.99 a month. This is on a month-to-month basis.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a boyfriend or girlfriend that lives abroad, you can now stay on the phone with them for a longer period of time and talk to them more often. After all, it will just be a local call.
  • When you visit friends and family members, all you need to do is sign on to Yahoo Messenger on the computer and you can receive calls.
  • The best time to use this VOIP service is at night. But, overall, it saves a lot of money on your phone bill and you can take it anywhere.

on 12/8/2007 This sounds like a great service. VoIP phones are much cheaper and work the same way. You don't have to have the local number but the call looks like it is local to the phone company. Free long distance in the US and other places.
