Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Hair trimmer razor
- Shave cream
- Safety razor
Step1
Consider the timing of this bold move. If you’re a Caucasian, the skin under your hair is white like paper. You’ll want some color from brief sunlight exposure to avoid looking like a cotton swab. February is a bad time for New Englanders if that’s the case. If nature has already blessed you with rich skin tone, then it will look great anytime.
Step2
Tell those who are close to you about this decision. Some may feel alienated if you make a drastic change in your appearance without fair warning. Be ready for some resistance, but know that some who protest the loudest, will be the first to tell you how good it looks. If shaving your head completely is something you really want to do, then to let someone talk you out of it now will only postpone the event.
Step3
Use the hair clipping razor to cut your hair down to an eighth of an inch or shorter. Wash with soap and rinse completely with warm water.
Lather shave cream generously over your whole head. Clean cream away from eyebrows. It will not be attractive if you accidentally shave off any of that hair.
Step4
Place the safety razor in the middle of your forehead and shave a swath toward the back, over the top of your crown. Shave an additional three razor widths in the same direction, on either side of that middle stripe.
Step5
Shave sideburns upward to the top of the ears. Then shave an angle, over the ear, toward the back of your head. Shave the remaining triangle at the same angle.
Step6
Shave your neck from the area below the ears, toward the back of the neck. Then shave in an upward direction to get in behind the ears. Use caution as this skin is very sensitive. Also do not touch any part of your ears with the blade. That can get messy.
Step7
Shave from the center of the back of your neck toward the top of the crown. Shave the entire back of your head in the same upward direction.
Step8
Run your hand over the entire scalp to find spots that need additional razor strokes. The direction rubbing locates stubble is the direction shaving will remove it. Try not to run the razor over the same spot more than a few times to avoid razor burn.
Step9
Rinse your head entirely with cold water and pat dry. It’s certain that some areas of your scalp will be irritated at first. Let it dry completely and give the skin a few hours time, before applying any skin cream or moisturizer.
