The tripod headstand has the same benefits as the traditional headstand but combining it with the crow develops strength and balance.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yoga mat
  • Loose, comfortable clothing
  • Ability to do headstand and crow separately
  1. Step 1

Assume the crow position and hold steady for as long as possible. Drop your head down so the crown of the head is on the mat.

  2. Step 2

With your palms firmly on the mat and using your arms for support, straighten your legs. Keep your spine and legs in the same line. Hold this position for as long as you are comfortable. Be aware of your balance.

  3. Step 3

Bend your knees and lower them down so that they are resting on the upper part of the arms. Lift your head up and assume the crow posture again.

  4. Step 4

Hold the posture steady with the big toes touching and then gently lower your feet back down to the mat.

Tips & Warnings
  • As you return to the crow from the headstand, make sure your knees are wide enough apart.
  • Do not practice the headstand if you are pregnant, have neck or back problems, glaucoma, heart disease or high blood pressure.
  • Avoid the crow posture if you have problems with your wrists.
