Consumer panels are becoming a great way to earn extra cash or participate in exciting sweepstakes. The problem with consumer panels is that there are so many to choose from, and some of them are right out scams. So, how do you find a consumer panel that is worth your while? Let's take a look.

From Quick Guide: Consumer Basics
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  1. Step 1

When looking for a reputable company that wants your opinion on things that you shop for, remember to ask yourself the three golden questions: (a) Does this panel cost money to join? (b) Does this panel offer cash, prizes, or both? (c) How much time do I have to put in to participate in this panel?

  2. Step 2

Most of the more reputable consumer panels will not ask you to pay to join their program. You want a company that wants to give you rewards for participating in their program. Places like Nielson Net Ratings and Global Test Market are very well-known for being honest and fair.

  3. Step 3

A consumer panel should offer participants some type of incentive for joining their program; otherwise, it would not be worth your time or effort. When joining a panel, be sure that you know about their incentive program. It should be consistent and easy to understand.

  4. Step 4

Of course, you will have to put forth some effort when you join a consumer panel. But, find out if you need special equipment, which should be supplied at no charge by the company. Are you supposed to scan items, just complete surveys, or both? With different panels to choose from, you should be able to find the one that fits your lifestyle.

  5. Step 5

The purpose of a consumer panel program is to help manufacturers better serve their customers. Don't be afraid to ask what major companies are involved with a particular panel. If a company cannot give you this information, it may be a scam, so be careful.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to join a panel that is not currently looking for participants in your area, stay on their waiting list. Be patient.
  • Consumer panels are a great way to have consumers voices heard, as long as you know the company you joined is reputable.
  • Avoid panels that you ask you to pay them money to join their program. These are more than likely scams.

on 1/5/2008 I like the fact that you can have access to new items before anyone in the public can get their hands on them.
