Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Know that in most cases, you new neighbors will not greet you with open arms. They’ve seen many city folk come and go over the years and will reserve judgment until you prove yourself.
Step2
Get an Internet connection, even if it is dial-up. This can help you combat loneliness by allowing you to stay in touch with family and friends.
Step3
Learn to make every trip to town worth the cost of the gas to get there. Make a list of everything you need before you go and run all the errands while there for the day.
Step4
Remember there is no convenience store on the next corner. Keep powdered milk and other staples on the shelves at all times in case you run out of consumables like milk and bread.
Step5
Do not expect country people to do things your way. Just because a thing was not allowed in the city doesn’t mean that folks have to change the way they do things. Even if that thing might not be the right way to do it in your eyes. Nothing will cause more resentment than city people trying to inflict their views on others.
Step6
Get to know your neighbors, but respect their privacy at all times. Never visit without calling first. Most country folk have chores that need doing and might not have time to sit around talking.
