Matting a picture for framing is not as hard as it seems. A few simple steps can let you have your pictured framed and ready for hanging in no time.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick the mat color and size ahead of time.

  2. Step 2

Turn the mat over and find the center of the mat by measuring out from each side into the center.

  3. Step 3

Once you have found the center, measure out towards one side the length of one side of the picture. Subtract one half of an inch from the line.

  4. Step 4

Once you have measured out to one side, draw a straight line.

  5. Step 5

Draw another line to the width of the picture, minus one half an inch, then draw another line.

  6. Step 6

    Repeat steps 3 to 5.

  7. Step 7

Using an Exacto knife, or utility knife, and a straight edge, cut along each line slowly. Once all lines have been cut through, remove the piece in the center of the mat.

  8. Step 8

Finally tape the picture in place.
