Seitan, or wheat gluten, is a great meat substitute for meat for those who are vegetarian. Some people find the texture too much like meat, however, I find that baking it makes tastier and more palatable.

From Quick Guide: Vegetarian Recipes
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 cups of seitan
  • Baking pan
  • Olive oil
  • Thyme
  • Braggs amino acids
  1. Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Chop the seitan into small pieces so you have about 3 cups. Put the seitan pieces in the baking pan.

  2. Step 2

Pour a few tablespoons of olive oil over the seitan. Add two teaspoons of thyme. Use your hands to make sure the oil and thyme are evenly distributed.

  3. Step 3

Spread out the seitan pieces. Squeeze about a quarter cup of braggs over top. Put the pan in the oven uncovered.

  4. Step 4

Bake for 20 minutes or until the edges start to brown. Remove and serve with any tasty side dishes of your choice.

Tips & Warnings
  • This goes well with mashed potatoes.
  • Don't leave it in the oven too long. The seitan will dry out.
  • Don't eat seitan if you are allergic to wheat.
