While I tend to write on what some might call "impractical" topics pertaining to leisure pursuits, aesthetics, the arts and literature, this is me being very practical in order to help out others through lessons I've learned the hard way. When submitting articles to eHow, be careful lest you lose your contribution and have to start over. This has happened to me more than once upon attempting to publish or submit. I use Explorer for a browser, so it may apply to that more so than to other browsers. In this article you will learn some ways to be careful with eHow, but they can also generally be applied elsewhere.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
The most basic way of being careful. With eHow submissions, copy/paste your text to another place that could be as simple as your e-mail program. Do this before attempting to publish.
Step2
One specific tactic is to publish your basic text before adding extras such as images and resources links.
Step3
After publishing the basic text, return to edit and then add resources links
Step4
After publishing resources links, add images, maybe even one at a time, returning to edit each time you've published a single image.

Tips & Warnings

  • The reason why I've suggested adding links and images in such a patient fashion is that as far as I can tell, they (especially images) seem to be the problem uploads.
  • If you don't have problems with publishing, more power to you! But if you do, don't get too impatient, as it's worth it to go step by step.

on 2/24/2008 Like Amanda, I write my articles in Word and then copy and paste into the appropriate eHow form box. But your point is well taken about adding photos and such - I've had a couple that hiccuped when adding everything all at once.

on 1/14/2008 Amanda,

Thanks for your comments. You are more patient and more capable of delayed gratification than I am! I write so many articles that I have to go directly and jump in. Now if I get burned more I may resort to your idea of a wp program first. Things seem to be going smoothly for now, but I do get some mysterious edits of my pieces, unless they're losing text and photos after the fact due to technical glitches.

on 1/11/2008 Your point is well taken and is certainly very practical! I tend to use the reverse tactic when cutting and pasting into Ehow's content management system. I write the document in a word processing program--Google Docs works great--and then paste text into the Ehow form.

on 12/12/2007 my occupation tends to bring questions from everyone i meet.

good for you for studying the illness of your former girlfriend. it takes a special person to do that. my bf has had to do a lot of adjusting due to mine. it is never easy being in a relationship with anyone, especially if they have a mental illness.

on 12/11/2007 Thanks Lisa! It may just be the images that you really have to watch for, as I now risk the Resources links first try and haven't had major problems.

I actually noticed your profile a day or so ago and took particular note of the map maker aspect and the writing on bipolar disorder. The map maker part stuck with me because it's a fairly unusual occupation and sounds "old school" even though I know nowadays computer mapping is big. Bipolar disorder - I spent the mid-1990s studying that because I was in love with a woman dual diagnosed bipolar/borderline personality disorder. Since I was in grad school I semi-incorporated this life event into my studies. As if that weren't enough, brilliant me ended up falling in love with a married bipolar woman in 2000.

Fortunately, life is much more subdued now and I think my judgment has improved with age :)
