Caramel Macchiatos are easy to make at home and can save you lots of money. If you'd like to save between $3.49-$4.89 on this type of cappuccino, making these yourself is the way to go.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Espresso maker
  • Whole espresso beans (fresher is better)
  • Carmel in a container (for caramel apples)
  • Teaspoon
  • Milk (whatever you currently drink)
  • Ice (if you want your caramel macchiato on ice)
  • Whipped cream, if you want
  • Coffee mug or used plastic coffee cup from your favorite coffee house
  • Straw

    Making Your Own Caramel Macchiato at Home

  1. Step 1

    With all your ingredients and hardware needed to make your Caramel Macchiato on the counter, unscrew the top of your espresso maker and with the espresso carafe, pour good water to the "steam" line.

  2. Step 2

    With your Coffee Grinder plugged in, twist off the top, which is also used as a measuring cup, and pour whole espresso beans to the 4, 6 or 8 line, for the amount of espresso you desire.

    Fill coffee grinder with desired espresso beans, twist top back on tightly, press the center button and the beans begin to grind to a fine ground needed for making espresso in the espresso maker.

    Take the ground espresso from coffee grinder and with teaspoon, place grounds into espresso maker. Once in espresso maker, twist top on and turn on the espresso maker.

    It takes no longer than 2-3 minutes for the Espresso grounds to brew into liquid form. Now you are ready to pour into your favorite mug or plastic cup.

    Before pouring the Espresso into your coffee mug or plastic cup, add between 2-3 teaspoons of caramel to your cup. If you want more or less, that is up to you.

  7. Step 7

    Add a handful or two of ice on top the caramel. On top of the ice, add your brewed Espresso, then finally milk. This can also be done in the reverse.

    Add all or half the brewed espresso to your cup.

    Add the amount of milk desired to the cup and there you have it, your very own homemade Caramel Macchiato. Drink up and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • This takes no time at all. If you want your espresso to be fresh, buy the beans whole and grind them up at home. Coffee/Espresso tastes better this way.
  • Remember, once the espresso is brewing, it is HOT and so is the espresso maker.
  • Please make sure no toddlers are around to grab or touch your espresso maker. Little hands can get into big trouble.

on 1/2/2009 This is inaccurate. A Macchiato is named such because of the layering process, which you did not suggest. A true Macchatio, hot or iced, goes like this:

Vanilla syrup
Milk
Espresso
Caramel drizzle

It is never blended or stirred. I've worked at Starbucks for years, trust me.
