A new halter top and skinny jeans isn’t exactly work appropriate at most offices, but there is no reason why your fashion sense has to suffer just because you are trying to move up the corporate ladder. Work wear doesn’t have to be dowdy; it can be fashionable and chic.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Black suit jacket and pants
  • Plain button front shirt
  • Printed skirt
  • Colorful sweater
  • Khaki pants
  • Sparkly accessories
  • Shimmer eyeshadow
  • Dark lip gloss
  • Fabric covered headband
  1. Step 1

Analyze what you have in your closet now. Try pairing a plain button front shirt with basic black pants but instead of tucking the shirt in, fasten a stretchy belt at your natural waist adding style to basic work wear.

  2. Step 2

Buy some versatile pieces. Pick up a crazy printed sweater or skirt you could wear out to a party. Tone down the party pieces with a tame classic work piece like a black suit jacket or solid khaki pants.

  3. Step 3

Get some new accessories. The quickest way to update a wardrobe is with jewelry, handbags or shoes. Add a sparkly clutch or a colorful pair of shoes to an everyday work outfit for extra flair.

  4. Step 4

Change your makeup. Even putting some shimmer eye shadow on your lids or using a darker gloss can change your look. Make sure you don’t over do it though, remember your makeup still has to be work appropriate.

  5. Step 5

Fix your hair. The cheapest way to change your look is to change your hairstyle. Instead of your usual low ponytail, try loose beach waves or pin a section of your hair back on top of your head. You may even consider wearing a chic fabric-covered headband.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember, the best way to be fashion forward is to be fashion fearless, so as long as it fits with the company dress code, don't be afraid to take some risks.
