How to Find Contentment in Your Job as a Christian

As a believer in Christ, you know you owe everything to God and have so much to be thankful for. Sometimes it's hard, however, to be thankful for your job--even though you know you should be. It is possible to be thankful for your job as a Christian, even if you don't like it, although it is a lesson some of us have to learn over and over again.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Prayer
  • Bible

Step1
Thank God in everything according to 1 Thessalonians 5:18, so start off by thanking God for your job, even if you don't feel like it, even if you don't like it. The Bible teaches that we have not because we ask not and to ask so we will receive, so by all means ask God for a different job, but Jesus also showed us the model for prayer when he prayed for the Father's will--not his own. When praying for a different job, pray that you will find one if it is God's will, but continue to thank Him for the one you have.
Step2
Learn from the life of Joseph in the Old Testament. His brothers sold him into slavery. He was wrongly imprisoned for attempting the wife of the man he worked for. No matter where he went God blessed Joseph, however, because of his faith in God. Others received the blessings too, even though they weren't believers, because of Joseph--his employer and those in the prison. Finally God used the fact he was in Egypt to save not only that country but others as well from starving to death during a famine--including Joseph's father and his brothers who had sold him into slavery. Considering Joseph, could there be a reason you can't see that God wants you where you are? Ask him to show you, and thank Him that He knows best. Joseph had every reason to not be content in his life, but he was content because he knew God knew best. Could we not have the same attitue as Christians?
Step3
Know that others learned about the God of the Old Testament because of Joseph. Could there be those who need to learn about Jesus because of you being in your job? Wouldn't that be reason enough to find contentment as a Christian in your job?
Step4
Evaluate if there are things you can be thankful for about your job, even if you don't like it. Think on those things, because thankfulness about your job can help bring contentment to you as a Christian. Does your job pay good or have good benefits? Is it something you are able to do? Have you had chances to witness? All of those things are something to be thankful for.

on 12/20/2007 I always thought of myself as doing what I did ( at my job )with the idea that I was working for the Lord. When I thought this way it didn't matter so much how bad my human boss was. Because my real aim was to please my real boss.
