Your best friend has just asked you to be best man at his wedding. This is a great moment for any friendship. However, it can be complicated if you are a female. Here is how to be a female best man.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ask your friend what he expects from his best man. Every groom wants different things from his best man, regardless of who it is. This will give you some ideas on what you should do during the engagement.

  2. Step 2

Talk to other people who have been a best man before. Just because you’re a female does not mean that you can’t get advice from a guy that has been best man.

  3. Step 3

Make sure to designate activities that are just for the guys. Even though you are technically best man, it’s important to remember that you’re still a female. The groom is most likely going to want to do some things with just the boys before he is married.

  4. Step 4

Tell your friend about any activities that you don’t feel comfortable about as a female best friend. Being honest with your friend about these things early will avoid any misunderstandings that may come up.

  5. Step 5

Have fun with the situation. A female best man isn’t a usual occurrence, after all. You could offer to wear a tuxedo to the wedding, for example. Be sure to talk to your friend about things of this nature beforehand.

  6. Step 6

Don’t be uptight about the situation. Remember that it is your friend who is getting married and that he asked you to be his best man. You should be willing to do anything that he asks of you during his engagement.

on 4/5/2008 I've been asked and I didn't know what to say. Sounds like fun, I'll have to do it.

on 12/15/2007 This is great and is happening more and more that I have seen. I guess when you hang out and are "just one of the guys", it is bound to happen.
