If you enjoy wild birds to your backyard, you can purchase wild bird food, or you can make your own for a special treat for your feathered friends! It's easy to make wild bird food, and when you make your own, it helps vary the wild bird's diet, which shouldn't consist wholly of seeds.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rolled oats (not instant)
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, or just about any dried fruit)
  • Peanuts
  • Some commercial seed mix
  1. Step 1

Mix the ingredients together. It doesn't really matter how much of each you use, although you should use more rolled oats and seeds than fruit and nuts.

  2. Step 2

Spread the seed mixture on the ground or in a bird feeder.

  3. Step 3

Watch the birds enjoy their healthy treat!

Tips & Warnings
  • Always use fresh ingredients for your seed mixture.
  • For a special treat for jays and other nut lovers, spread some peanut butter on a pinecone or large nut, and then roll it in your seed mixture. Hang on a tree limb for the birds to enjoy.
