Step 1
Start at Sturgeon Bay, the county seat. The only community on the peninsula to be big enough to be considered a city, Sturgeon Bay’s centerpiece is the Door County Maritime Museum in the revitalized waterfront area. After shopping downtown, visit the lighthouses at the north end or the south end of Sturgeon Bay.
-
Step 2
Explore more than 25 specialty shops and a dozen restaurants in Egg Harbor, including the Door County Nature Works that is housed in a 3,000 square-foot barn. Vacationers can hear music in the air at another barn three miles east of Egg Harbor. The Birch Creek Music Performance Center features a regular schedule of concerts during the summer.
-
Step 3
Enjoy the arts in Fish Creek. This community is home to the Peninsula Players, a professional summer theater, and it is the centerpiece of Fish Creek’s arts community. Fish Creek also boasts the Door Community Auditorium, where concerts entertain throughout the year.
-
Step 4
Play at the park in Ephraim. This community is the gateway to Peninsula State Park, Wisconsin’s largest. In addition to summer activities in the park, visitors also can take advantage of outdoor pastimes during the winter, such as cross-country skiing or ice fishing.
-
Step 5
Stroll along the Sister Bay shoreline. Downtown offers a sandy beach and waterfront park. After spending the afternoon browsing through some of Sister Bay’s shops, relax for dinner in Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant. Take note of the goats grazing on the roof made of sod.

Step 6
Take a ferry ride to Washington Island. Situated off the northern tip of the peninsula, this island was originally settled by people from Iceland. The ferry travels through “Death’s Door,” the strait between the peninsula and the island, to get to the island where you will find a state park, a small business district, museums and solitude.
