How to make stained glass window cookies

You'll learn how to make the perfect stained glass window cookie.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/3 cups butter
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 well beaten eggs
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 5 1/4 cups flour
  • crushed, clear, hard candies sorted by color
  1. Step 1

    Makes about five dozen cookies.

  2. Step 2

    Mix the butter and sugar together in a large bowl. Mix it into a cream.

  3. Step 3

    Beat the milk and eggs together and add it to the butter mixture.

  4. Step 4

    Add the nutmeg to the flour, and then mix it into the butter mixture.

  5. Step 5

    Wrap in some waxed paper and chill for an hour.

  6. Step 6

    After an hour, pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees Farenheight. Cover the baking sheets with foil.

  7. Step 7

    Roll the dough 1/4 inch thick and cut out the desired shape of your cookie making sure you leave at least 1/4 inch of edge around the center hole.

  8. Step 8

    Place the cookies on the prepared cookie sheet.

  9. Step 9

    Fill the centers of the cookies with crushed candies. Only use on color per hole.

  10. Step 10

    Bake for 6-9 minutes or until the candy melts.

  11. Step 11

    Cool for 5 minutes to allow the candy to solidify before moving them to a wire rack.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make as an ornament cut a hole at the top before baking them.
  • Don't or be careful when touching the hot cookies.

on 12/7/2007 I can never get the crushed candy to come off the pan well. Any ideas?
