How to Get a Great Fake Tan
Tanning in the sun is out; the risks of skin cancer and wrinkles are just too high. But a bronzed look is still in. So get "sun"-kissed skin at home with self-tanners and proper skin care. With a little time and techique, you'll have a glow that is truly healthy. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Exfoliator
- Moisturizer
- Back scratcher
- Makeup sponges, large and small
- Self-tanner
- Rubber gloves
- Petroleum jelly

Shower to remove dirt and oil from your skin. Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells, leaving a smooth surface for the self-tanner.

Moisturize your skin with lotion or cream. Let it dry thoroughly.

Protect areas you don't want tanned, such as your hairline or eyebrows, with petroleum jelly.

Put on thin rubber gloves. Squeeze a quarter-size dollop of self-tanner and apply it to your arms, legs, chest, back and neck. If necessary, use a "back scratcher" with a sponge attached to get to hard-to-reach areas.

Apply a little tanner to your face and the backs of your hands with a cotton swab or sponge.

Allow the tanner to dry fully before putting on clothes to avoid staining.

Tips & Warnings
Choose a lighter color of self-tanner at first to see how it looks on your skin when dry. To avoid streaking, rub in the product evenly.
If using a tanning booth, the color can easily transfer to clothing after getting dressed. Make sure you are dry before dressing. The substance might also have a strong scent, though not particularly unpleasant.
