Believe it or not, it’s possible to host a kid’s party that isn’t groan-inducing for adults. With a little thought, some extra planning and a few additional steps, you can throw a bash that’s fun for all ages.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Invitations
  • Decorations
  • Food
  • Beverages, including conventional and retro sodas
  • Birthday Cake
  • Party games that are challenging for all ages
  • Prizes
  • Separate goodie bags for young and grownup revelers
  • IPod, loaded with a mix of kid-friendly tunes adults can groove to, too
  1. Step 1

Ask your child to find out who he’d like to invite to his party. Once you decide the number of people you’d like to invite, prepare invitations, indicating that it’s a mixed age party and that adults are welcome to attend.

  2. Step 2

Talk to your child about the party’s theme, and select decorations that convey an appropriate message.

  3. Step 3

Decide where you’d like to hold the event, bearing in mind that you’ll have access to the comforts of home if you host it at your abode.

  4. Step 4

Plan mutually enjoyable games and activities for guests young and old, such as such as bobbing for apples, pin the tail on the donkey and sack races. Select an array of prizes that will work for both age groups.

  5. Step 5

Load your iPod with a mix of music that’s family-friendly and appeals to all ages.

  6. Step 6

Plan your menu and beverages after discussing favorite foods with your child. You can serve kid classics along with riffs on those same dishes for adults. For example, flatbread pizzas with cheese appeals to most kids, while a grownup version might include Gruyere, caramelized onions and red wine-infused mushrooms.

  7. Step 7

Assemble separate goodie bags for adults and kids.

Tips & Warnings
  • Depending on the ages of guests, it might be a good idea to host an afternoon party to accommodate children’s schedules.
