Things You'll Need:
- Unscented dryer sheets
- Orange peels
- Cinnamon sticks
- Oils
- Cheap pan
- Water
- Stove
-
Step 1
Dryer sheets are the key to success here. You can add any scented oil, any smell to a unscented dryer sheet. The non-oil smells are a little harder.
-
Step 2
For a quick fix you can simmer two orange peels and three cinnamon sticks in a small pan of water. Once the mixture has come to a rolling boil add a couple of unscented dryer sheets to capture the smell. These can be removed after 2 minutes and stretched out over the sink or drying racks to dry.
-
Step 3
The trick is to remove the filter from your furnace and pin the dryer sheet to the filter. They are made of the same material and are heat resistant. The smell is wonderful and intensified by the heat of the air as it is pushed through the filter and the dryer sheet.

on 2/12/2008 That is interesting as well as environmentally conscious. What a great way to recycle dryer sheets...

on 12/14/2007 I'll try this since i have pets in my house, so it doesn't always smell like roses.

on 12/13/2007 We can't get to our furnace's filter very easily, so I've done something very similar with the heat registers (vents) in the rooms of the house. I usually cut the sheets so that they fit over about 1/2 to 2/3 of the vent and hold them in place with magnets. Make sure your scented sheets aren't touching carpet, paint, or anything else that they may damage or stain.
