Calcium is a necessary nutrient for healthy bones and teeth. There are several sources to choose from. There are also certain things that are needed for calcium to be absorbed properly. There are even some things that prevent absorption.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cheese
  • yogurt
  • shellfish
  • tofu
  • green vegetables
  1. Step 1

Calcium can be found in green vegetables, shellfish, cheese, yogurt, and other dairy products. Try to find dairy products that come from chemical free dairies.

  2. Step 2

Calcium is used throughout the body. It is used to synthesize vitamin B12 and with magnesium to strengthen the cardiovascular and skeletal systems. Calcium must be combined with Vitamin D to be properly absorbed by the body.

  3. Step 3

Eliminate sodas from your diet, if possible. The phosphates in the soda will actually leak calcium from your bones. Don't confuse phosphates with phosphorus. Phosphorus helps to build strong teeth and bones.

  4. Step 4

Exercise regularly. Exercises puts a minimal amount of stress on bones. This stress causes the bones to put a signla out that they are needing more calcium. When you exercise, make sure you add more calcium to your diet, so that your bones will get what they need.

  5. Step 5

Calcium is required for the functioning of every cell in the body. It helps to lower blood pressure, controls anxiety and depression and helps us to get the rest we need.

  6. Step 6

You can also add calcium by taking calcium supplements. Make sure that the supplement has a 2 to 1 ratio between calcium and magnesium. This insures that the calcium will be absorbed properly. Also make sure you are getting adequate amounts of vitamin D.
