Muttar Paneer

Muttar paneer is a traditional vegetarian Indian dish made from peas and paneer, a fresh or farmer's cheese which you can make yourself. Read on to learn how to make muttar paneer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil or ghee
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp. dried ginger or a 1-inch cube of fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp. garam masala
  • 1 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 lb frozen peas
  • 1 8 oz can chopped tomatos
  • 1/2 cup vegetable stock
  • Fresh coriander or cilantro
  • Paneer
  1. Step 1

Heat the oil and add the cubed paneer. Fry the paneer until the sides are golden brown. Drain the paneer on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  2. Step 2

Leaving enough oil to coat the pan, add the onions, ginger and garlic. Saute until the onions are translucent, about two minutes. Add the spices. If you are using powdered ginger, add it now. Stir and fry for another two minutes.

  3. Step 3

Add the peas, tomato and the stock. Simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Add the paneer and simmer for another five minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately.
