Snow and ice storms can make such a mess during the winter time. The best way to remove ice is by using salt, but for the salt to work you need to know how to apply it correctly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Self
  • Shovel
  • Salt
  1. Step 1

Remove any excess snow from the area you want to apply the salt to.

  2. Step 2

Once excess snow is removed you want to apply the salt directly on the ice generously using a cup. Sprinkle the salt side to side as you go, as if you are applying a carpet freshener to a rug.

  3. Step 3

If the ice is really thick you need to apply a large amount of rock salt. Leave it alone and allow it to melt the ice.

  4. Step 4

Apply a second coat if needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Spread the rock salt evenly.
  • Always keep rock salt on hand during winter months.
  • Be careful when walking on ice.
