A Christmas gift bag ready to go.

To wrap a present for a birthday or a holiday, it’s necessary to at least wrangle up some wrapping paper, scissors, and tape. That doesn't even including the bows, bells, and other items that can be used decorate the gift. After finding those tools, it then takes time to actually manipulate the paper around some gifts’ awkward angles and hold it in place with one hand while grabbing for a piece of tape with the other. Gift bags eliminate this hassle and are just as colorful and personalized as wrapping paper.

From Quick Guide: Gift Bags 101
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check to see that the present you chose is small enough to fit completely inside the gift bag.

  2. Step 2

Wrap enough white or colorful tissue paper around the gift so it’s completely concealed. This way, the person you’re giving it to won’t see what it is until actually peeling the tissue paper away from it.

  3. Step 3

Situate the gift or gifts inside the bag being careful not to rip it if it’s a paper variety.

  4. Step 4

Arrange additional tissue paper around the gift so some of it peeks out of the top of the bag.

  5. Step 5

Nestle the card, if you have one, on top of the gift among the loose tissue paper so it’s sure to be opened first. Some gift bags come with a matching tag that can be used to write down who the gift is to and who it's from.

  6. Step 6

Enjoy the look on the person’s face when they pull out their gift from you without having to get past ribbons, tape or wrapping paper.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that the gift bag you’re including with your gift corresponds with the occasion. If it’s a birthday, for example, the gift bag should say “Happy Birthday” or depict a cake or balloons.
