Clifford delights children of all ages. There is something about a giant red dog that warms the heart. When your child loves Clifford and all of his doggy friends, then plan a party using the Clifford theme.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Card stock paper
  • Clip art image of Clifford
  • Scissors
  • Various party supplies
  • Cake
  • Snacks
  • Goodie bags and fillers
  1. Step 1

Make your own invitations by cutting card stock paper into the shape of a bone. Obtain a clip art image of Clifford on the Internet. Make as many copies of the clip art as you need. Glue the picture to the bone shape, and then write the party details.

  2. Step 2

Decorations for this theme can include red and white streamers hanging around the party room. Tie alternating red and white helium balloons to each party guests chair.

  3. Step 3

Use a red tablecloth for the party table, and make dog print place mats for each seat. You can find the image of a paw print on the Internet. Make enough copies of the print, and simply cut out and laminate it for the place mat.

  4. Step 4

Play "Pin the Bone on Clifford." Find a large poster or picture of Clifford and hang it on the wall. Cut out small dog bones and put each child’s name on the bones. Play this game just like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but instead, have the children try to pin the bone right on Clifford’s mouth.

  5. Step 5

Play "Red Clifford." You know the classic game of Red Rover, so why not play Red Clifford instead! Divide the children into two teams. Space the two teams apart and facing each other. Have each team hold hands and chant, "Red Clifford, Red Clifford, let (child's name) come over!" That child will then run to the other side and try to break into the team holding hands. If he or she succeeds, they will become a part of the other team.

  6. Step 6

If you want make your own cake, then bake a regular size cake in a cake pan and frost it with white icing. Pipe a red border on the top and bottom. Find small plastic Clifford toys to place on the top of the cake.

  7. Step 7

For snacks, have large dog bowls sitting out with things like Scooby Doo cookies, which are dog bone-shaped cookies for kids. You can also make "Puppy Mix" by mixing together different kinds of cereal, raisins, and chocolate chips for a good snack. Of course, if you want to serve a meal, you can’t go wrong with hot dogs.

  8. Step 8

When you make the goodie bags for the party, consider buying each child a dog tag with their name on it. You can find these machines at your local pet store. You can also add in Clifford theme stickers, and small plastic Clifford toys.

Tips & Warnings
  • Give yourself plenty of time to plan the day's activities.
  • Send invitations out at least 2 weeks before the party.
  • If you or you know of someone who has a doghouse, consider cleaning it out and letting the children go inside to see what it is like.
