Instructions

    • 1

Make your own invitations by cutting card stock paper into the shape of a bone. Obtain a clip art image of Clifford on the Internet – pbskids.org has printables. Make as many copies of the clip art as you need. Glue the picture to the bone shape, and then write the party details.

Decorate with red and white streamers hanging around the party room. Tie alternating red and white helium balloons to each party guest’s chair.

    • 3

Use a red tablecloth for the party table, and make place mats for each guest. The PBS printables could be handy for this project as well. Make enough copies of the print, and simply cut out and laminate it for the place mat. Or leave them unlaminated and let the children color their place mats before eating.

Play "Pin the Bone on Clifford." Find a large poster or picture of Clifford and hang it on the wall. Cut out small dog bones and put each child's name on the bones. Play this game just like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but have the children try to pin the bone right on Clifford's mouth.

    • 5

Play "Red Clifford." You know the classic game of Red Rover, so play Red Clifford instead. Divide the children into two teams. Space the two teams apart and facing each other. Have each team hold hands and chant, "Red Clifford, Red Clifford, let (child's name) come over." That child will then run to the other side and try to break into the team holding hands. If he succeeds, he brings one of the opposing team back to his team. If not, he becomes a part of the other team.

    • 6

Bake a cake and frost it with white icing. Pipe a red border on the top and bottom, or simply line the top and bottom edge with red licorice strips. Find small plastic Clifford toys to place on the top of the cake and add red candles.

    • 7

Make "Puppy Mix" as a snack food by mixing together different kinds of cereal, raisins and chocolate chips.

    • 8

Give goodie bags for the party featuring Clifford theme stickers, Clifford books and small Clifford toys.

Tips & Warnings

  • Give yourself plenty of time to plan the day's activities.

  • Send invitations out at least 2 weeks before the party.

  • If you or you know of someone who has a doghouse, consider cleaning it out and letting the children go inside to see what it is like.
