Step1
If you have a partner, get them involved in the transformation. After all, they'll be the first to benefit!
Step2
Clutter isn't sexy. If you have children, your bedroom, like many other parents', will become a dumping ground for toys and books. The last thing you need in your adult fantasy haven is physical evidence of your real-world responsibilities.
De-clutter your bedroom with a harsh hand. Remove toys, sporting equipment and anything that gives your space a feeling of being a storage room. Ensure your floor space is clear of everything apart from furniture.
Step3
On the subject of children, if you haven't already done so, consider placing a lock on your bedroom door to secure the area as a child-free zone. This may sound harsh, but the benefits from such a decision make it a wise choice.
Step4
A fresh coat of paint will give your room a clean look. Colour choice is important. While red is a passionate colour, you don't want your bedroom to look like a ****'s boudoir, so if you choose to use it, do so sparingly as an accent colour.
Green is said to be the most relaxing colour for the eyes, so if you're leaning that way, a mint crisp or a cool cucumber tone might be the perfect choice. Be careful though if you do decide to use this hue as it may create a cold and clinical mood, rather than warm and sultry.
A rich goldenrod or honey gold tone will add warmth to your space. Creating intimacy is essential if you have a large space to play with. Adding a rich burgundy accent colour to give the room a luxurious quality.
Step5
Rearrange furniture to improve the use of space as well as the feel of the room. If you enjoy going to sleep and waking up to the views from your bedroom, consider facing the bed towards the windows.
Step6
If your budget allows, redress your window fixtures. Choose curtains that are luxurious and sexy to look at, such as rich satin drapes in a dark colour intersperced with voile panels in a lighter colour.
Step7
Lighting can make or break a mood. Consider investing in a dimmer switch so you can switch the room's mood from bright excitement to smooth and sexy.
Wall sconces, with either lightbulbs or candles, can introduce small amounts of warm light into room.
If you have an iron bedstead, warm it up with simple, warm, white Christmas tree lights. This soft lighting will allow you to set a magical tone in the bedroom and it's quite easy and inexpensive to put into place. Dress the headboard by wrapping the lights around the iron frame.
Candles placed on bedside tables can add sensuous lighting and if scented, smells too. Choose musks, vanillas and lavenders to create pleasant aromas in your boudoir.
Step8
When dressing your bed, consider investing in new bedding. Purchase items which not only look good, but feel good too. Consider investing a complementary and luxurious throw to add warmth and colour to the bed.
Dress your bed with a canopy to transform your bed into a point of intimate focus. Measure your bed up and create a wooden frame of equal size that will go on the ceiling. Simply attach pieces on 1" x 2" using nails secured into studs. Attach a gauzy or lacy fabric to the outside border of the frame, creating pleats as you go along the edge.
Step9
Appeal to your sense of smell with oil burners, freshly cut flowers, scented candles or bowls of potpurri.
Step10
Redress your walls to add to the sensuality of the space. Artwork should enhance the feel, not detract from it. Avoid aggressive images and try to have your artwork draw upon the colors you have used in the space. If you're purchasing pieces, look for landscapes, figure studies or abstract paintings with warm colours and smooth curves.
Step11
Accessorise your space with soft cushions, sensual vases overflowing with flowers and objects which please you.
