How to write a poem

Decide on the subject and then develop the paragraphs to build the story Our Christmas Day Whats that ringing, hear that booming, lots of noise up in the sky Can you hear it softly calling from the heavens way up high Sounds of harness held with magic big white boomers pull the sleigh Cross the mallee over mountains heading North on Christmas day Is that music of the season or my goodness dare I say In the echo of the bushland do they sing our country way Eyes are searching for the reason of the laughter, fun and joy Children tearing at the paper wrapped around some treasured toy Smells of cooking like the old days roasted vegies lamb and beef See those lollies pull those crackers eat the stuffing eat and eat Christmas pudding bowls of custard all those jellies green and red What a story we'll be telling of the day when we're in bed Got a pushbike and a skateboard see the new boots that I've got You got dollies your my sister and I know you cry a lot But I'll help you play with your stuff, just because its Christmas day But dont you tell the boys at my school they would tease me thats their way Now I'm tired, what a great day, lots of eating fun and joy Wow I tell you life is such fun, lucky me, a country boy Christmas stocking, filled with treasure lots of fun things to be had Had the best time with my family, Christmas day with mum and dad Furphy Dec 2007

2. build a story
3. put your story into paragraphs that lead into the story and leads the reader into the story with you

• make sure you know what it is you want the reader to see in their mind
• dont ramble or stray from the base idea
