While the comprehensive travel booking sites offer the ability to compare different airline fares, sometimes going directly to the airline’s website is your best bet. They also won’t travel a booking fee.

Do you belong to AAA or another travel organization? Check to see what discounts they offer their members.

Some airlines offer great last minute deals in the form of an e-mail subscription. You may even be able to specify your home airport so that it only sends you the appropriate deals for you. These are often unadvertised specials that you must act on quickly.
