Finger painting is not just child’s play. You can use this well-known artistic method to decorate your scrapbook layouts. Create unique designs with simple finger-painting techniques. Traditional finger paints are not archival-safe, but regular acrylic paints are photo-safe and can be used on scrapbook pages. Here are some suggestions for using finger paints on scrapbook layouts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fingers
  • Acrylic paints
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Photographs
  • Scrapbook embellishments
  1. Step 1

Select acrylic paint in your desired colors. Make sure your paints match and accent your paper.

  2. Step 2

Squeeze a small amount of paint on your paper and use your finger to spread the paint into a unique design or to color in stamped images.

  3. Step 3

Add more paint if needed, but be careful not to get the paper too wet.

  4. Step 4

Use your creativity to make pictures, images and one-of-a-kind designs.

  5. Step 5

Once you have created your masterpiece, allow the paint to dry completely.

  6. Step 6

Use the painted paper for a page background, cut it for a photo mat or make a page border.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the paint sparingly; you can always add more if needed.
  • To create a traditional “finger-paint effect,” apply the new colors before the other colors are completely dry; this will blend your colors and generate a finger-painted appearance.
  • Let your kids finger-paint on scrapbook paper, and use their creations to decorate scrapbook layouts with pictures of the children.
  • Finger paints can be used to add dimension to the scrapbook page; the thicker the paint, the more dimension.
  • Don’t overdue it with your paint. Too much paint can damage your paper by soaking through and causing it to warp.
  • Cover your working surface to keep the paint off other supplies.
