How to Cat-Proof Your Home

Keep your precious feline safe with a home designed to keep him out of trouble. Cats are quick, curious creatures who can easily get into trouble without the proper protections in place.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Have cats and plants in your home? They don’t always mix because some can be poisonous. Even with those that aren’t, to avoid having a ruined plant with dirt all over your floor, consider hanging your plants. When buying new ones, make sure they aren’t harmful in case your cat does get to them.
Step2
Watch pot handles when cooking. It doesn’t take much for cats to jump up and knock the handle over. Keep pot handles facing inward toward the stove so your cat can’t easily get to it.
Step3
Don’t leave knives or other sharp objects with bits of food on them accessible to your cat. This includes can covers. Your cat may lick them and cut her tongue.
Step4
Keep washing machine covers and toilet seats closed. Cats can jump in them and get hurt or get stuck.
Step5
Keep closet doors and drawers shut. Cats can easily sneak inside when you’re not aware and then get closed in.
Step6
Are you a candle lover and a feline owner? Consider using tea lights and tarts rather than a candle with an open flame.

on 7/18/2008 Another tip, if you have a kitten try to make sure you don't sleep with it. It is very easy to roll over and trap it. When I was young this happened to me and it was devastating.
