Copy writing is a necessary skill for putting good content on your website or blog. You can learn to be a copywriter who creates effective Web content by following a few tricks used by copy-writing experts. These tricks are not difficult, but they do take practice to master. Try these ideas to see how much stronger your copy writing can be in a very short period of time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Website or blog
  • Word processor

Step1
Remember to use keywords in important places in your copy writing. The most obvious place for this is in the headline. That way the first thing a person sees when he reaches your page is the keyword he was searching for online.
Step2
In addition to using keywords, mention a strong benefit that a person will receive by having your product or service. Make the benefit so crystal clear that she will have no doubt that you have the product she wants. This will keep her reading your copy and hopefully will result in a sale.
Step3
Let your copy show how what you have to offer will solve a key problem or pain that the person has. Getting relief is a major buying trigger and motivator when a person is doing a Web search.
Step4
Copy writing needs to be persuasive as well as informative without giving away all of your secrets. It’s almost like writing a good mystery story that keeps a person reading.
Step5
Use questions in your copy writing. Asking a question forces the brain to seek an answer; it’s a normal human response. Use questions that make the reader want to get an answer, and let the answer be your product or service.
Step6
If your Web copy is lengthy, use techniques that let the reader skim the page without having to read every word. Do this with subheadings that also contain keywords. As the reader skims the page, she'll keep seeing more of what she’s been looking for, and this will become persuasive in getting her to take the desired actions you want.
Step7
Copy writing is a place where you can use sensational language. Use adjectives that exude excitement. Awesome, exclusive, incredible, unique, or limited are good words to put into your copy to bring out emotion in your reader.
Step8
Include formatting that makes certain areas of your copy writing stand out. This include highlighting a phrase or one word within a sentence. Use italics to emphasize one sentence. Leave a lot of white space to make sentences stand out and make boldface the standalone sentences.
Step9
You can learn to do copy writing as well as the professional copywriters with some practice. Remember to use these tips and keep practicing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your copy writing focused on one topic.
  • Make the copy only as long as needed to get the person to take action.
  • Don’t stop copy writing if it seems difficult at first; just keep practicing.
  • Copy writing is not magic, even though good copy writing gives you a better chance of success.

on 6/17/2008 Great Article! When preparing your content on your own website, remember to write in a natural tone. If you try to stuff keywords into your content, it will read unnaturally. And, the search engine spiders are able to recognize unnatural tone in copy on a website.
