Many people are drawn to aesthetic work but few embrace the idea of starting a career in art. Talent comes in many shapes and forms. An individual can be a savvy digital artist, a traditional hand-to-canvas creator or just an admirer and still have a lucrative career in art.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Focus on personal strengths. Make a list of natural talents and attributes. The talents do not have to be connected with producing artistic pieces. Artistic jobs can encompass finances, business planning, marketing, fashion and history.
Step2
Museum Find a niche. Those who love art history may want to explore careers in art that involve antique appraisals, teaching and museum work. A curator is an excellent choice for individuals drawn to art history.
Step3
Consider computer work. Many artistic jobs include advertising and graphic design. Digital art is all the rage and careers in digital art can be found in publishing and in video game development.
Step4
Consider photography. Freelance photographers may face a feast or famine cycle that isn't appealing to anyone who likes stability. However, someone with excellent photography skills may want to find a career in art in a portrait studio.
Step5
Discover a knack for animation. This field isn't for everyone but there are many options to consider, including a job as a clean-up artist, lip sync professional and character developer. This field is also very competitive but extremely lucrative for the right individual.
Step6
Look into the fashion industry. This field is ideal for marketing professionals, accountants, designers and tailors. Careers in art can also be found in magazine publishing as well.
Step7
Consider art careers with a human touch. These include portrait artist, police sketch artist, courtroom artist and greeting card designer. There are many choices in this realm including book illustration.
Step8
Check for an inner entrepreneur. A creative spirit mixed with an entrepreneurial drive is a strong force destined for success. Consider branching out into a home business creating sculptures, paintings or hand drawn portraits.
Step9
Put together a portfolio. Volunteer to produce art for churches, nonprofit organizations and children's programs. Those who focus on non-creative aspects may want to focus on volunteering at museums and local art galleries within their field. Add all experiences to a comprehensive resume.
