Step 1
As with any trip, you will first want to figure out where you will stay. If you are planning a long weekend with your romantic partner, the Herlong Mansion in Micanopy is the place to stay. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the bed and breakfast inn makes its guests feel instantly welcome, and offers idyllic wraparound verandahs on which to sit and connect with your loved one. Step 2
Micanopy is an antique lovers paradise! Plan to spend an entire day strolling down the town's Spanish Moss dotted streets and peruse the many antique shops and vintage boutiques. All of that shopping is bound to make you work up an appetite, and the town's cafes are the perfect antidote to your hunger. Sip Southern sweet tea on a front porch, or enjoy a sandwich made out of local ingredients.
-
Step 3
Research the plethora of historical and cultural options in Micanopy and the surrounding areas. History buffs will want to check out the Micanopy Historical Society Museum. If nature is your thing, plan a visit to Paynes Prairie State Park, which is located a few miles outside of Micanopy. It became Florida's first state preserve in 1971 and is now dedicated as a National Natural Landmark.
-
Step 4
If you are a literature buff, plan to visit the farm of author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Rawlings penned "The Yearling," for which she won the 1939 Pulitzer Prize while living on this farm in Cross Creek, which is a small town outside of Micanopy. The Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park offers tours daily.

Step 5
After you arrive in Micanopy, you may realize that you have seen the town on the big screen! Hollywood has used the quintessential Southern town as a backdrop for several films. Before your visit, watch "Doc Hollywood" and "Cross Creek," which were both filmed in Micanopy.
