Things You'll Need:

How to Host a Green Christmas Dinner

  1. Step 1

Make a list of the food you will need for the dinner so you do not over buy. How many people will be attending? Are you or your guests going to eat the leftovers?

  2. Step 2

Most grocery stores now have an organic section, so try to buy organic only food for your dinner. Also, when you shop carry your groceries in totes instead of using plastic or paper bags.

  3. Step 3

Use illusions to make it look like there is more food than there really is. Most party-goers expect a lot of food, but often this is not within your budget or it just is not necessary.

  4. Step 4

Paper plates and napkins do not say classy. Use real silverware and cloth napkins. When you wash the napkins, wash them with a load of laundry instead of wasting water to wash them separately.

  5. Step 5

Put all food scraps into a compost bin, not in the trash. Alternatively, you could feed the scraps to your pet or throw them into the woods for scavengers like raccoons.

  6. Step 6

Use biodegradable bags when you give guests leftovers.

  7. Step 7

Do away with place cards and fancy centerpieces. Create your own with items you already have in the house like ornaments, pinecones or poinsettias. If you decide to buy flowers especially for the event, purchase plants that can be planted in your yard during the spring.
