How to Make a Winter Bird Feeder

Our feathered friends need a little help in winter to obtain food. These bird feeders are fun to make with kids and they can watch the birds visit their creations. Read on to learn how to make a winter bird feeder.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pine cones (larger size if possible)
  • Some yarn to hang them
  • Couple of jars of inexpensive peanut butter
  • Bag of bird seed
  • Old newspapers
  • Paper plates and spoons
  1. Step 1

    Pore some bird seed on a plate for each child. Put an amount of peanut butter on a plate for everyone.

  2. Step 2

    Give everyone a spoon and let them start to frost the pine cone with peanut butter.

  3. Step 3

    Once pine cone is covered, roll the cone in the bird seed, shake off any excess.

  4. Step 4

    Tie a piece of yarn around pine cone for hanging it in a tree.

  5. Step 5

    Watch the birds visit!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can tie the yarn on first to make it easier.
