How to Find the Best Bands Playing at Your Local Club

If you love live music, you know that nothing compares to seeing a band in the intimate setting of a small space. With the number of bands out there, it's impossible to know them all. Even if you follow the scene closely, it's easy to be unaware of great bands. The following are tips to finding the best bands playing at your local club.

1. Many great bands play local clubs all over the country and not just near major cities. To find clubs near you, query your town with words such as "club" "rock club" "concert" and you'll get a list of places most with websites.

2. Check out the club websites. Go down the list and read the band descriptions. Make note of bands that sound interesting.

3. Query for the band on MySpace and listen. Limit yourself to a minute per track. If a band or song doesn't catch you attention, move on. There are many more bands to check out. Be sure to listen to the supporting bands as well as the openers. Some supporting acts can be better.

4. When you've made a list of the bands you like, start making plans. Some shows can sell out far in advance. Email the info to your friends so they can listen to, and get a group together to go with you--the more the merrier.
