Save some of the hassle on your next ski vacation to Vail by flying to Eagle County Airport

One of the most difficult parts of getting to a ski resort can be the trek from the airport. But, in Vail, Colorado, you have a better option than driving 3 hours through the driving snow from the Denver International Airport--the Eagle County Airport. Located just 30 minutes away from Vail and Beaver Creek, the Eagle County Airport is one of the state's best kept secrets and a favorite of those who frequent the Vail valley.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A flight into Eagle County Airport (EGE)
  • Rental car or shuttle bus
  • Hotel reservation
  1. Step 1

When booking your next trip to Vail or Beaver Creek, try to schedule your flight into the Eagle County Airport. American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, United, United Express and US Airways provide service during the winter months between the Eagle County Airport and many major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Newark and Philadelphia.

  2. Step 2

Most of the airlines only schedule one or two flights a day into the Eagle Airport, so be sure that you coordinate your travel time with your hotel check-in time.

  3. Step 3

Upon arrival, look for your baggage. There are only 4 baggage claim areas and they're located next to each other, so all luggage comes to the same general location.

  4. Step 4

While rental car facilities are limited at the airport, several of the major rental car companies are represented. If you don't need a car (and most of the time you don't), look into booking a trip on one of the shuttle vans that run between the airport and the local ski resorts (see Resources below). Don't forget to book a return trip--shuttle services get busy during peak periods.

Tips & Warnings
  • Book your flights well in advance.
  • In inclement weather, be prepared to get diverted to Denver International Airport, adding an extra 3 hours to your commute.
  • Amenities are few and far between at Eagle so be sure to bring something to eat and read on your flight. There aren't any retail stores at the airport.
