You decide to redo a room in laminate flooring. You go to the store and see 7 different types of laminate floors. Each box has a different amount of Square Footage that it covers....now what......

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Steel Tape Measure
  • Writing Pad or Paper
  • Pen or your favorite writing utensil.
  1. Step 1

Calculate Total Square Feet for your room:

Add 5-10% extra material for cutting waste.

Length of Room x Width of Room = Square Feet of Room + Waste % = Total Square Feet

    ex. 10'L x 15'W = 150 Square Feet + 10% = 165 Total Square Feet

  2. Step 2

Calculate the amount of cases needed to complete the room: The box will have the amount of Square Feet that it will cover. This example, the box has 18.62 Square Feet per box.

Total Square Feet ÷ Square Feet per Carton = Quantity

ex. 165 Square Feet ÷ 18.62 Square Feet per Box = 8.86(round up) so you will need 9 boxes of laminate flooring to complete your room.

  3. Step 3

The last thing to consider is the underlayment or the material that goes under the laminate. Some laminates already have it attached. Lets say our laminate does not come with any. The Square Feet each roll covers will be written on the package. To Calculate this is very easy....

  4. Step 4

Calculating the amount of underlayment needed. Lets say each roll covers 50 Square Feet.

Total Square Feet ÷ Square Feet per Roll = Quantity

    ex. 165 ÷ 50 = 3.3 or 3 rolls.

  5. Step 5
