A fear of success is a form of self-sabotage. By fearing success, we limit ourselves, literally placing a limit on the amount we can achieve. Learn to recognize fear and the ways you sabotage your success--then your options are unlimited.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Tell yourself you can do it. Use self-talk to encourage yourself and talk yourself through tough periods. Self-conviction is one of the keys to success.

  2. Step 2

Set attainable goals. Being unrealistic is one way to sabotage your future plans. By setting realistic, attainable goals you can take small steps toward your success and limit the fear that may accompany it.

  3. Step 3

Learn to give yourself credit. When you have made a step toward your goal, even a small step, acknowledge your accomplishment.

  4. Step 4

Evaluate past failures. A previous failure offers prime learning ground for avoiding future mistakes. Instead of belittling yourself for past mistakes, learn from them and move on.

  5. Step 5

Recognize your fears, make a plan, then take action toward your future success. Self-knowledge, planning and action are the keys to success.

Tips & Warnings
  • A fear of success is a fear that you don't deserve success. Recognize your worth and claim the success you deserve.
  • Look for old tapes that may run through your mind--ones that tell you you're not good enough--and reprogram your thinking to recognize your true value.
  • Success can be scary, but if you face those fears ahead of time, you'll be prepared when you reach your goals.
