Las Vegas is one of the hottest places to be for New Year's Eve, but getting into the right hotel and the best party might turn a good vacation into an amazing one.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Start planning early. You will be more prepared for your trip to Las Vegas, and you'll likely get a better deal on hotel rooms.
Step2
Sign up for newsletters and deals at the hotels or their websites. That way when they announce their New Year's Eve parties, you'll find out without having to do a lot of research.
Step3
Decide how you'd like to spend the big night. The Strip closes down at about 10 p.m., and people party there until a spectacular fireworks show at midnight. There are also many New Year's Eve parties and celebrations, often hosted by celebrities. Or you might choose to go downtown and kick off the new year at the Fremont Street Experience.
Step4
Choose which hotel you would like to stay at. Keep in mind it's generally best to get a hotel near the New Year's party or event you want to attend, especially if you want to celebrate on The Strip. Because of the mass of people, most hotels bar those who are not hotel guests from entering right after midnight.
Step5
Call around to a few hotels to see which is the best value for New Year's Eve. Keep in mind that if you have visited Las Vegas before and have played in some of the casinos, you might qualify for a discounted casino rate. Plan to arrive by at least December 30, as most hotels will not allow you to check in on New Year's Eve.
Step6
Book your Las Vegas hotel before the holiday hype builds. You'll generally get the best deal by booking at least 3 months in advance. Plus, if you book directly through the hotel and you find a better offer later, you can always cancel your reservation and re-book.
Step7
Book your plane ticket, if you need one.
Step8
Buy tickets to any shows, concerts or parties you would like to attend as soon as they are available to get the best seats.
Step9
Pack smart. If possible, bring only a carry-on to avoid waiting for baggage at the airport. Remember that although it is Nevada, nights can be cold. Plan to bring a coat or sweatshirt, especially if you will be standing outside for a long time. Also, bring sensible shoes if you plan to do a lot of walking.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep in mind that because hotel rooms are in high demand for New Year's Eve, they are more expensive than at most other times of the year. Don't expect to get a $49 room, even at places off The Strip.
  • Parties thrown by the hotels and clubs are often less chaotic than partying on The Strip. Some also include alcohol and entertainment for the cover price.
  • If you want to be on The Strip for New Year's Eve, but also want a little bit of space, try celebrating on the southern or northern ends of The Strip, as the middle section near the Bellagio is the most crowded.
  • Remember that because of the holiday's popularity, you will likely be looking at long lines to get a cab, get into a restaurant or club, and even get a spot at a blackjack table. Be patient.
