"Bewitched" was a television series that debuted on ABC TV in 1964. Starring Elizabeth Montgomery, it was a sitcom about a cute suburban witch named Samantha Stephens, married to a mortal husband named Darrin, who forbade her to use any witchcraft. Of course, not an episode went by that she didn’t use witchcraft to get herself or her husband out of a jam. The show aired until 1972 and endured several major cast changes along the way. To this day it still airs in syndication and can also be viewed on DVD box sets. Read on to learn how to be a "Bewitched" fan.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Television with cable or satelite access
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Credit card for online ordering of books or DVDs
Step1
Watch the first two seasons. The first two seasons of "Bewitched" weren’t aired for the first couple of decades after the show was syndicated. These two seasons, filmed in black and white, were apparently not part of the original syndication deal. So if you watched "Bewitched" reruns in the 1970s and 1980s, you may have missed these episodes. To be a true "Bewitched" fan, you need to watch the first two seasons. They are available on DVD, in either black and white or colorized versions.
Step2
Watch the rest of the series at least once, and the best episodes more than once. Any true fan must watch the entire series at least once. But some episodes are worth watching many more times. Some of the best episodes in this series include “The Moment of Truth,” “A Safe and Sane Halloween,” “Humbug Not to Be Spoken Here,” "Samantha’s Da Vinci Dilemma,” “Once in a Vial,” “My What Big Ears You Have” and “Sisters at Heart.”
Step3
Know your Darrins. The most major cast change was the introduction of a new Darrin in the series’ sixth season. The original Darrin, played by Dick York, was replaced by actor Dick Sargent. The Darrin’s didn’t look anything alike and no explanation was given to viewers. The series changed with the introduction of the new Darrin, as the chemistry between the characters came off differently.
Step4
Read the "Bewitched" books. There are several good books about the "Bewitched" series, most notably Herbie J. Pilato’s “Bewitched Forever.” This book features episode synopsis, cast bios and tons of interesting facts about the "Bewitched" series.
Step5
Check out the "Bewitched" fan sites. There are several great websites devoted to "Bewitched." One of the best is “The Bewitched and Elizabeth Montgomery Web Site.” This site features photos, trivia, rare articles, television schedules and tons of other information on this series. Another huge site is at Harpies Bizarre, which features links to tons of rare articles about the series.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be confused by 2005's "Bewitched" movie. Although it's a cute movie starring Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman, it really has very little to do with the original television series.
