Things You'll Need:
- A child's story book or children's bible book explaining the birth of Jesus
-
Step 1
Set aside time to talk with your child. Make sure there are no distractions. Preferably wait until bedtime.
-
Step 2
Ask your child about their thoughts on Christmas and what Christmas really means.
-
Step 3
Listen intently to what your child has to say and then let them know that Christmas is a time that we choose to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Let them know that Jesus is the son of God. Read out loud the children's story book on the Birth of Jesus Christ. Explain that during the time of celebrating the Birth of Jesus we give gifts to our family and friends.
-
Step 4
Discuss some of your family traditions of opening presents on Jesus's Birthday on December 25.
-
Step 5
Tell your child that Santa Claus is a make-believe person. Some people like to pretend that he is real and dress up in Santa suits to have fun.
-
Step 6
If you are having financial difficulty and will not be able to get your child all the gifts he or she wants explain that this year mommy or daddy will give a special gift from the heart, instead of lots of presents. Let them know that there will only be one special gift from the heart given and it will be a surprise.
-
Step 7
Save money to purchase the special gift and give it to your child on Christmas day.
