Step 1
Decide what is holding you back. If fear is at the core of your reluctance to break out and try new things, become aware of these fears. Once faced, you can see what exactly is keeping you from having passion in your life.
-
Step 2
Make a list of new experiences you'd like to try. Whether you've always wanted to kayak down a river, take a belly-dancing class or start your own business, it's important to identify these wants. Try making a "100 Things to Do Before I Die" list and start from there. Which activities call out to you and demand you try them?
-
Step 3
Recognize that your passions are not the same as everyone else's. For some, incorporating passion in their life may be as simple as taking more time for gardening. For others, it may include spending quality time with grandchildren. Passion does not always mean an extreme adventure. Simple pleasures invoke passion, as well. What's most important is what matters to you.
-
Step 4
Prepare to feel uneasy. Change can be scary at first. Take small steps toward including more passion in your life. The fear is part of the process. As author Don Miguel Ruiz says, "To be alive is the biggest fear humans have. Death is not the biggest fear we have; our biggest fear is taking the risk to be alive, the risk to be alive and express what we really are." So take that risk and start living a passionate life.
